InstaGerminina contains Bacillus clausii spores, a probiotic that helps restore and maintain healthy bacteria in the gut.
It is mainly used to support recovery from diarrhoea and help restore normal intestinal flora, especially during or after antibiotic treatment.
For oral use only; shake well before use, do not inject, and follow the recommended dose for the patient’s age.
Shake the vial, twist off or snap the top as the pack shows, and swallow the contents directly, or mix into a drink or food that is cool. Never mix it into anything hot, tea, hot milk or hot porridge, because heat kills the spores and you are left with flavoured water. Adults commonly take one to three vials a day and children one to two, spaced through the day, or as directed. When taking it alongside an antibiotic, leave two to three hours between the antibiotic dose and the vial so the antibiotic does not simply kill the probiotic. Continue for a few days after the antibiotic course ends.
Probiotics are safe for the great majority of people but are not for everyone. Avoid them, or take specialist advice first, if you or your child are severely immunocompromised, receiving chemotherapy, on high-dose steroids, have a central venous line, or have had bowel surgery or a severely damaged gut lining, because rare bloodstream infections have been reported in those situations. This is a supportive treatment and not a substitute for rehydration. In a child with diarrhoea, oral rehydration solution and zinc are the treatments that save lives; a probiotic is an addition. Seek urgent care for blood in the stool, a high fever, persistent vomiting, sunken eyes, no tears, reduced urine, drowsiness, or diarrhoea lasting beyond fourteen days.
Store below 25 degrees Celsius, away from direct sunlight and heat, and out of reach of children. Unlike many probiotics, Bacillus clausii is supplied as heat-stable spores and does not need refrigeration, which is a real advantage where power supply is uneven, but it should still not be left in a hot car or in the sun. Use a vial immediately once opened. Do not use after the expiry date.
