Description
Mupiban-B Cream combines mupirocin, a topical antibiotic, with betamethasone dipropionate, a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation and itching. The Kenyan registered formulation contains mupirocin 20 mg and betamethasone dipropionate 0.025%
The combination may be used when a bacterial skin infection is accompanied by inflammatory symptoms such as redness, swelling and itching. Mupirocin acts against susceptible bacteria, while betamethasone helps reduce inflammation.
It may therefore be prescribed for selected infected eczema, infected dermatitis and other superficial bacterial skin infections with inflammation. It should not be used simply for any itchy rash, fungal infection or unexplained skin condition because the corticosteroid component can worsen or mask certain infections.
