Lenafoz Syrup contains Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride 2.5mg and Montelukast Sodium 4mg per 5ml, combining an antihistamine with an allergy-control medicine.
It is mainly used to relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny or blocked nose, itchy/watery eyes, and to help control allergy-related breathing symptoms.
Shake well before use and give the recommended dose; it may cause drowsiness in some people, so take care with activities requiring alertness.
Give the dose your prescriber has written, measured with the cup or syringe supplied rather than a kitchen spoon, which is not accurate. The combination is usually given once daily in the evening, because montelukast works best taken at night and levocetirizine can cause drowsiness. Shake before use if the label says so. It can be given with or without food. Give it every evening for the period prescribed rather than only on bad days, since montelukast is a preventive medicine and needs continuous use to work.
Prescription only, and not for a simple cold. Montelukast carries a warning about mood and behaviour changes: report agitation, aggression, nightmares, unusual anxiety, sleepwalking, depression or, in older children, any talk of self-harm, and stop the syrup. Levocetirizine causes drowsiness, so a child on it should be watched around stairs and roads, and older users should not drive. Reduce the dose in kidney impairment. This syrup does not relieve an acute asthma attack and must never replace a reliever inhaler. Tell your prescriber about liver problems, epilepsy, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Avoid alcohol.
Store below 25 degrees Celsius, away from direct sunlight, with the cap tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Do not freeze. Keep the measuring device with the bottle so the dose is always accurate. Note the date you opened the bottle and discard any remaining syrup after the in-use period stated on the carton, and never after the printed expiry date.
