Dekozi Expectorant contains Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride and Ammonium Chloride, an antihistamine and mucus-loosening combination for cough relief.
It helps relieve cough associated with mucus, while diphenhydramine can also reduce runny nose and sneezing linked to colds or allergies.
May cause drowsiness, so avoid driving or alcohol if affected; use the dose recommended on the label or by a healthcare professional.
Take the dose stated on the pack with the measuring cup provided, usually every six to eight hours. Shake before pouring. The single most important thing you can do alongside an expectorant is drink water, generously and throughout the day, because the syrup thins mucus and hydration is what actually keeps it thin. Steam inhalation over a bowl of hot water, and sleeping propped up on an extra pillow, both help. Do not take it at the same time as a cough suppressant, and do not continue beyond five to seven days without advice.
This syrup is meant to make you cough more productively, not less, so it is the wrong choice for a dry tickly cough that is keeping you awake. Do not combine it with a suppressant such as a dextromethorphan or codeine syrup, because one loosens mucus while the other stops you clearing it. Check with the pharmacist before giving it to a young child, and before combining it with any other cold remedy. See a doctor rather than buying a second bottle if the cough has lasted more than three weeks, if you are coughing up blood or rust-coloured sputum, if you are breathless at rest or wheezing, if you have chest pain, drenching night sweats, unexplained weight loss, or a known contact with tuberculosis.
Store below 25 degrees Celsius, upright with the cap firmly closed, away from sunlight and heat, and out of reach of children. Keep the measuring cup with the bottle. Once opened, use within the period stated on the carton, and never use after the printed expiry date.
