Histaflu capsules are a cold-and-flu medicine used to relieve several flu and common-cold symptoms; the exact active ingredients and strengths are not visible on the front of the pack.
They are intended to provide relief from symptoms such as fever, headache/body aches, blocked or runny nose and other flu-related discomfort.
One capsule up to three times a day with water, after food, or as directed on the pack. Leave at least six hours between doses. Because the antihistamine component causes drowsiness in most people, an evening dose is often the most useful one and helps with sleep during a heavy cold. Take it for three to five days at most; a cold that has not started to turn by then needs a different approach, not a longer course. Drink plenty of fluids and rest, which do more for the illness than any capsule.
Check the pack with our pharmacist before you take anything else containing paracetamol, because doubling up is the main danger with combination cold products and paracetamol overdose damages the liver silently. Do not drive or operate machinery after a dose, and do not drink alcohol with it. The decongestant component makes it unsuitable if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, an overactive thyroid, glaucoma, prostate enlargement with difficulty passing urine, or diabetes, and it must not be taken with an MAOI antidepressant or within two weeks of stopping one. Not for children without specific advice. Avoid in pregnancy and breastfeeding unless the pharmacist confirms it is suitable. Stop and seek care for a fever above 38.5 degrees lasting more than three days, breathlessness, chest pain, or a stiff neck with headache.
Store below 25 degrees Celsius in a dry place away from sunlight and out of reach of children. Keep the capsules in their blister so the product stays identifiable, which matters because combination cold remedies are the medicines people most often double up on by accident. Do not use after the expiry date on the pack.
