Neokid Syrup 100ml contains Paracetamol 250mg, Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 5mg and Chlorpheniramine Maleate 2mg per 5ml.
It is a children’s cold-and-flu medicine used to relieve fever, headache/body aches, blocked or stuffy nose, runny nose and sneezing associated with common colds and flu.
Chlorpheniramine helps reduce runny nose and sneezing, phenylephrine relieves nasal congestion, while paracetamol reduces fever and pain.
Give the dose printed on the pack for your child's age and weight, measured with the cup or oral syringe supplied. A kitchen teaspoon is not a measure and routinely delivers between three and seven millilitres, which is how children end up overdosed. Shake the bottle before each dose. Doses are usually spaced six to eight hours apart. Do not give it for more than three days without seeing someone. Fluids, an upright sleeping position and saline nose drops help a small child far more than syrup does.
Cough and cold syrups are not recommended for children under two years, and are used cautiously between two and six, because the risk of side effects outweighs a benefit that is small at best. Check with our pharmacist before buying for a young child. Never give this alongside another cold syrup, a flu sachet or a paracetamol product without confirming the ingredients, because doubling up is the commonest cause of accidental overdose in children. Take your child to a clinician the same day for fast or laboured breathing, chest indrawing, grunting, a blue tinge to the lips, refusal to drink, fewer wet nappies, drowsiness that is hard to rouse, a fever in an infant under three months, a rash that does not fade under pressure, or a cough lasting beyond three weeks.
Store below 25 degrees Celsius, upright, tightly capped, away from sunlight and heat, and out of reach and sight of children. Sweet syrups are attractive to toddlers, so keep the bottle high and closed rather than on a bedside table. Keep the dosing device with the bottle. Discard after the in-use period on the carton and never use past the printed expiry date.
