How to use

Peel off the backing strip, place the pad centrally on clean dry underwear, and wrap the wings underneath. Change every four to six hours through the day and before sleeping. Wash and dry your hands before and after each change. Wrap the used pad and bin it rather than flushing. Keep at least two spare pads in your bag or desk at all times during the week you expect your period, so that you are never in the position of stretching one pad through a whole day.

Important warnings

The most important safety point with any pad is duration of wear, not brand. Wearing one pad all day causes odour, skin irritation and raises the risk of infection. If you have persistent itching, burning, soreness or an unusual discharge after your period, ask the pharmacist; thrush and bacterial vaginosis are the common causes and both are treatable. Bleeding that soaks a pad in under two hours, clots larger than a fifty-shilling coin, periods lasting more than seven days, or feeling dizzy, breathless or exhausted during your period all need a medical review and a blood count. Bleeding between periods, after sex, or after menopause is never normal and needs a doctor.

Storage

Store in a clean, dry, closed place away from damp and dust, and keep individual wrappers sealed until use. Do not store pads in a humid bathroom, in a bag that gets wet, or next to strong-smelling detergents and perfumes, all of which can transfer scent and irritate delicate skin. Do not use pads from a pack that has become wet, torn or visibly dirty.
