Clamoxin tablets contain Amoxicillin 500mg and Clavulanic Acid 125mg, a combination antibiotic that fights a wide range of bacterial infections.
They are used for infections of the ears, sinuses, throat, chest/lungs, skin, teeth and urinary tract when caused by susceptible bacteria.
Take with food and exactly as prescribed; complete the full course and avoid use if you have a serious penicillin allergy.
Take one tablet every eight to twelve hours as prescribed, swallowed whole with water at the start of a meal. Beginning the dose with your first mouthful of food is the single most effective way to avoid the stomach upset this combination is known for. Keep the intervals even rather than clustering doses in the day. Finish every tablet in the course even if the fever and pain have gone, and do not keep spares for the next illness.
Avoid completely if you are allergic to penicillin or any beta-lactam, or if a past amoxiclav course caused jaundice. Tell your prescriber if you have kidney or liver problems, glandular fever, or take warfarin, methotrexate or allopurinol. Emergency help is needed for facial or tongue swelling, breathing difficulty, or a fast-spreading blistering rash. Report severe or bloody diarrhoea during or in the weeks after the course, and any yellowing of the eyes. Discuss pregnancy or breastfeeding with your prescriber, though amoxiclav is generally regarded as one of the safer options in both.
Keep below 25 degrees Celsius in a dry place away from steam and sunlight, out of reach of children. Clavulanic acid is destroyed by moisture, so leave each tablet sealed in the blister until the moment you take it and never store a week's worth loose in a container. Do not use past the expiry date printed on the carton.
