Amoviclav 228.5mg/5ml contains Amoxicillin 200mg and Clavulanic Acid 28.5mg per 5ml of oral suspension.
It is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections such as ear, throat, chest, skin and urinary tract infections.
Shake well before each dose and complete the prescribed course; it does not treat viral infections such as colds or flu.
Made up with water by the pharmacist or exactly as the label states. Shake hard before every dose and measure with the syringe or cup provided; a teaspoon from the kitchen is not a measure. Give the dose at the start of a feed or meal to reduce stomach upset. The 228.5 strength is dosed twice daily in most regimens, so keep a twelve-hour interval. Complete the whole course. If a dose is vomited within thirty minutes, repeat it; after that, wait for the next scheduled dose rather than doubling up.
Do not give to a child with a penicillin or beta-lactam allergy, or one who has previously had jaundice on amoxiclav. Tell the prescriber about kidney or liver problems and about glandular fever. Emergency care is needed for swelling of the face, lips or tongue, wheeze, breathing difficulty, or a rash that blisters or peels. Report severe, watery or bloody diarrhoea during or in the weeks after the course, and any yellow eyes, dark urine or pale stools. Do not switch between amoxiclav strengths by matching volume, because the amoxicillin to clavulanate ratio differs and the dose of both changes.
Keep the sealed powder below 25 degrees Celsius in a dry place. Once reconstituted, store in a refrigerator between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius, never freeze, and discard the remainder after seven days or the period the label states. Write the date of reconstitution on the bottle. Shake before every dose, keep the cap tight, and keep it out of reach of children.
