TruGel Antacid Suspension contains Magaldrate 400mg and Simethicone 20mg per 5ml, combining an antacid with an anti-gas medicine.
It provides quick relief from acidity, heartburn, indigestion, bloating and flatulence (excess gas).
Shake well before use and take as directed; separate it from other medicines by about 2 hours to reduce absorption problems.
Shake the bottle well before every dose, because the active gel settles at the bottom and an unshaken bottle gives you flavoured water. Take the dose on the pack between meals and at bedtime, or when symptoms strike, which is usually one to three hours after eating. Do not swallow it with a large drink of water immediately afterwards; the point is to leave a coating on the stomach lining. Keep at least two hours between this and any other medicine, since antacids interfere with the absorption of many tablets. Do not use it continuously for more than two weeks without advice.
Antacids relieve symptoms; they do not treat a cause. Do not use this to mask heartburn that has been going on for weeks. See a doctor rather than continuing if you have difficulty or pain on swallowing, food sticking, vomiting, vomiting blood or material like coffee grounds, black tarry stools, unexplained weight loss, persistent vomiting, anaemia, or if you are over 45 with new indigestion. Chest pain with sweating, breathlessness or pain spreading to the jaw or left arm is a heart emergency, not indigestion. Aluminium and magnesium antacids must be used cautiously in kidney disease. Tell the pharmacist if you take iron, thyroxine, an antibiotic from the tetracycline or quinolone families, digoxin, or a bisphosphonate.
Store below 25 degrees Celsius, upright with the cap closed, out of direct sunlight and out of reach of children. Do not freeze; freezing separates the suspension permanently. Shake before each use. Once opened, use within the period stated on the carton, and do not use after the printed expiry date.
