How to use

Remove the wrapper, peel the backing, centre the pad on dry underwear and fold the wings underneath. Change every four to six hours during the day and before bed, and more often on heavy days. Wash your hands before and after. Wrap the used pad in its wrapper and bin it; pads block toilets and latrines. Keep a spare pad and a small wrapper in your bag rather than relying on finding one, and change immediately after sport or swimming even if the pad seems dry, since moisture against the skin causes most irritation.

Important warnings

A slim pad holding a large volume can feel dry on the surface while being close to full, so change by the clock rather than by feel. If you develop itching, burning, a rash or unusual discharge that persists after your period, ask the pharmacist rather than switching brands repeatedly, because the usual culprits are thrush, bacterial vaginosis or a reaction to fragrance rather than the pad itself. Soaking a pad in under two hours, clots larger than a fifty-shilling coin, bleeding beyond seven days, or feeling faint and breathless during your period all need medical review for heavy menstrual bleeding and anaemia. Any bleeding between periods, after sex or after menopause needs a doctor.

Storage

Keep the pack in a dry, clean place away from humidity and dust, with individual wrappers unopened until use. Do not store pads loose in a handbag without a wrapper. Avoid keeping them in a steamy bathroom or next to strongly perfumed products, which can transfer scent and irritate sensitive skin. Discard any pack that has been wet or torn.
