Cipro-T tablets contain Ciprofloxacin 500mg and Tinidazole 600mg, combining an antibiotic with an antimicrobial that targets certain parasites and bacteria.
They are mainly used for certain mixed bacterial and parasitic infections, including some intestinal infections causing diarrhoea or dysentery, and other susceptible infections.
Take exactly as prescribed and complete the course; avoid alcohol during treatment and separate the medicine from antacids, iron or zinc supplements.
One tablet twice daily, twelve hours apart, taken after food with a full glass of water, or exactly as prescribed. Keep at least two hours between each dose and milk, yoghurt, antacids, iron, calcium, zinc or magnesium supplements and multivitamins, because these bind the ciprofloxacin and can eliminate most of the dose. Maintain a high fluid intake and use oral rehydration solution while diarrhoea continues. Complete the prescribed course and avoid strong sunlight throughout.
Two important warnings apply together. From the tinidazole: no alcohol during the course or for at least three days afterwards, including alcohol-containing tonics and mouthwashes, because the reaction causes flushing, vomiting, headache and palpitations. From the ciprofloxacin: stop and contact a doctor immediately for tendon pain or swelling, especially the Achilles, for new numbness or tingling in the hands or feet, or for confusion, hallucinations, severe anxiety or suicidal thoughts. Avoid in epilepsy, myasthenia gravis, long QT syndrome, pregnancy, breastfeeding and in children. Report severe or bloody diarrhoea during or up to two months after the course.
Store below 30 degrees Celsius in a dry place, protected from light and moisture, and out of reach of children. Keep the tablets in their blister until each dose. Do not use after the expiry date on the pack. Return unused tablets to the pharmacy rather than keeping them at home, since combination antibacterials are the medicines most frequently taken speculatively for any episode of stomach upset.
