How to use

Take exactly as written on your prescription, with a full glass of water, and space the doses evenly through the day so the level in your blood stays steady. Drink two to three litres of water daily while you are treating a urinary infection, because flushing the bladder is part of the treatment, not an optional extra. Finish the whole ten-tablet course even if the burning has gone by day two. Do not save leftover tablets for the next episode.

Important warnings

Prescription only. Tell the pharmacist if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have kidney or liver disease, or have ever reacted badly to an antibiotic, and bring a list of anything else you take, including antacids, iron and calcium supplements, which can block absorption of several antibiotic families. Stop and seek help urgently for a spreading rash, swelling of the face or lips, difficulty breathing, severe or bloody diarrhoea, or new tendon pain. Get reviewed the same day rather than continuing the pack if you develop fever, chills, vomiting or one-sided back pain, because that means the infection has reached the kidney.

Storage

Store below 25 degrees Celsius in a dry place, away from direct sunlight, and out of reach of children. Bathroom cabinets are the worst place for tablets because of the steam. Keep them in the original blister until the moment you take one, and do not use them after the expiry date on the pack.
