Description

Infa-V pessaries are vaginal medicines used to treat certain vaginal infections; the exact active ingredients and strengths depend on the specific product.

They are commonly used for vaginal infections causing discharge, itching, irritation or unpleasant odour, helping clear the infection locally.

Insert the pessary deep into the vagina as directed, usually at bedtime; complete the prescribed course and avoid self-treatment if pregnant or if there is pelvic pain, fever or unusual bleeding.

How to use

One pessary inserted high into the vagina at bedtime, or as directed by your pharmacist or doctor. Wash your hands before and after inserting. Lie down for a few minutes afterwards so the pessary dissolves in place rather than slipping out. Use a panty liner overnight, because a dissolving pessary leaks. Finish all 8 pessaries even if the itching stops on the second or third night. Do not stop and restart the pack for a later episode.

Important warnings

Not for use during your period, and not for use in girls who have never been sexually active without a doctor seeing them first. Tell the pharmacist if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before you buy. Pessaries can weaken latex condoms and diaphragms during the course and for a few days after, so use another method. Do not douche during treatment. Seek a doctor the same day if you develop fever, lower abdominal pain, back pain or bleeding that is not your period, because that pattern points to an infection that has spread beyond the vagina and needs oral treatment. If symptoms are unchanged after the full course, come back for a swab rather than buying a second pack.

Storage

Store below 25 degrees Celsius in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children. Heat softens pessaries and makes them difficult to insert, so keep them out of a hot car or a windowsill. Keep them in the foil until the moment you use one. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack.
