Augmentin 625mg tablets contain Amoxicillin 500mg and Clavulanic Acid 125mg, a combination antibiotic used to fight susceptible bacterial infections.
They are commonly used for infections of the ears, sinuses, throat, chest/lungs, skin, teeth and urinary tract.
Take with food and exactly as prescribed; complete the full course and avoid use if you have a serious penicillin allergy.
The standard adult dose of Augmentin 625 mg is one tablet three times a day, roughly every eight hours, giving seven days from this pack of fourteen when taken twice daily or under five days when taken three times daily. Follow your prescription. Take each tablet at the start of a meal with water. Do not crush or chew. Space doses evenly and complete the course. If you miss one, take it as soon as you remember unless the next is nearly due, in which case skip it rather than doubling up.
Never take Augmentin if you are allergic to penicillins or have had jaundice or liver trouble with amoxiclav before. Tell your doctor about kidney or liver disease, glandular fever, and any use of warfarin, methotrexate or allopurinol. Get emergency help for swelling of the face, lips or throat, wheeze or breathing difficulty, or a rash that blisters or peels. Severe, watery or bloody diarrhoea during or up to two months after the course must be reported and not treated with an anti-diarrhoeal at home. Jaundice can appear weeks after finishing. It may reduce how well some oral contraceptives are absorbed if you vomit or have diarrhoea, so use extra precautions that cycle.
Store below 25 degrees Celsius in the original blister, in a dry place away from sunlight and out of children's reach. Humidity breaks down the clavulanate component, so do not transfer these tablets into a pill organiser or an unsealed bottle. Do not use after the expiry date on the carton, and return unused tablets to the pharmacy rather than keeping them.
