Clindamycin 150mg tablets contain clindamycin 150mg, an antibiotic used to treat certain serious bacterial infections.
It is commonly used for infections of the skin, teeth and gums, bones, joints, abdomen and some pelvic infections when caused by susceptible bacteria.
Take exactly as prescribed with a full glass of water and complete the course; seek medical advice for severe or persistent diarrhoea, as this can be a serious side effect.
One capsule every six hours, or the dose your prescriber has written, spaced evenly through the day. Swallow whole with a full glass of water and stay upright for at least thirty minutes afterwards, because a capsule that lodges in the oesophagus causes painful ulceration. Food does not reduce absorption and does reduce nausea, so taking it with a meal is sensible. Complete the whole course. For acne, courses are longer and improvement is gradual over weeks, so do not stop at two weeks because nothing has changed.
Stop the capsule and seek medical assessment at once for diarrhoea that becomes severe, watery, frequent or bloody, or comes with abdominal pain and fever, whether during the course or up to two months afterwards. Clindamycin is the antibiotic most associated with Clostridioides difficile colitis. Never take loperamide or another anti-diarrhoeal for this. Tell your prescriber about inflammatory bowel disease, previous colitis, liver or kidney disease, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Stop for a blistering or peeling rash, facial swelling or breathing difficulty, and report yellowing of the eyes or dark urine.
Store below 25 degrees Celsius in a dry place, protected from moisture, sunlight and heat, and out of reach of children. Keep capsules in their original blister or container until each dose. Do not use after the expiry date on the pack. Return unused capsules to the pharmacy; a partial course of clindamycin left in a house is an antibiotic that will eventually be taken for something it should not treat.
