Suprazed 500mg tablets contain Amoxicillin 250mg and Flucloxacillin 250mg, two penicillin-type antibiotics that work together against susceptible bacterial infections.
They are used for bacterial infections such as those affecting the throat, ears, chest/lungs, skin, soft tissues and urinary tract, when appropriate.
Take exactly as prescribed and complete the full course; avoid use if you have a serious penicillin allergy, and do not use antibiotics for colds or flu.
One tablet four times a day, or as prescribed. Take each dose on an empty stomach, one hour before food or two hours after, with a full glass of water, and avoid milk around the dose; flucloxacillin absorption falls substantially with food. A practical four-times pattern is on waking, mid-morning, late afternoon and at bedtime. Swallow whole. Complete the full course prescribed, even after a wound looks clean or a swollen face has settled, because visible improvement precedes bacterial clearance by several days.
Not for anyone with a penicillin or beta-lactam allergy, since both ingredients are penicillins. Tell your prescriber about liver disease, kidney disease, previous jaundice on flucloxacillin, and glandular fever, in which amoxicillin causes a widespread rash. Seek emergency care for swelling of the face, lips or tongue, wheeze, breathing difficulty, or a rash that blisters or peels. Report yellowing of the eyes, dark urine, pale stools or itching without a rash at any time during the course or in the two months after, as flucloxacillin can cause delayed liver injury, more commonly over the age of 50.
Store below 25 degrees Celsius in a dry place away from steam, sunlight and heat, out of reach of children. Keep tablets in the blister until each dose rather than transferring them to a pill organiser. Do not use after the expiry date on the pack, and return unused tablets to the pharmacy rather than keeping a partial course at home for a future boil or toothache.
