Amoviclav 312.5 DT contains Amoxicillin 250mg and Clavulanic Acid 62.5mg, a combination antibiotic used to fight susceptible bacterial infections.
It is commonly used for bacterial infections of the ear, throat, sinuses, chest/lungs, skin, teeth and urinary tract.
Dissolve the dispersible tablet as directed, preferably with food, and complete the prescribed course; do not use for colds or flu and avoid it if you have a serious penicillin allergy.
Disperse the tablet in about a tablespoon of clean drinking water, stir until it breaks up, and give the whole amount straight away; rinse the cup with a little more water and give that too. Do not prepare it ahead of time. Give it at the start of a meal or feed to reduce diarrhoea. Usually twice or three times daily as prescribed, spaced evenly. An older child able to swallow may take the tablet whole with water. Finish the entire course rather than stopping when the fever settles.
Not for a child with a penicillin or beta-lactam allergy, or one who has had jaundice or liver upset after a previous amoxiclav course. Tell the prescriber about liver or kidney disease and about glandular fever, in which amoxicillin produces a widespread rash. Emergency care is needed for facial, lip or tongue swelling, wheeze, breathing difficulty, or a rash that blisters or peels. Report severe, watery or bloody diarrhoea during or up to two months after the course, and yellow eyes, dark urine or pale stools. Never substitute this strength for the 228 tablet one-for-one; both the amoxicillin dose and the amoxicillin to clavulanate ratio differ.
Store below 25 degrees Celsius in a genuinely dry place, out of reach of children. Dispersible tablets are designed to take up water instantly, so ambient humidity degrades them and destroys the clavulanic acid. Keep each tablet in its sealed blister until the moment of use, never transfer them to a pill organiser, and keep them well away from the bathroom and kitchen steam. Do not use after the expiry date on the pack.
