Amoxicillin 125 mg per 5 ml dry syrup reconstitutes to a 60 ml bottle.
It is used to treat bacterial infections such as infections of the ears, throat, chest/lungs, skin, teeth and urinary tract.
Shake well before each dose and give exactly as prescribed; complete the full course and do not use it for colds or flu.
Reconstituted with water. Shake thoroughly before each dose and measure only with the syringe or cup supplied. It may be given with or without food. Usually three times daily, roughly eight hours apart. Before leaving the counter, ask the pharmacist to confirm that 60 ml covers the full prescribed course at your child's dose; for a heavier child or a longer course the 100 ml bottle is the correct size, and running short on the last day defeats the purpose of the course. Complete every dose.
Not for a child with a penicillin or beta-lactam allergy. Tell the prescriber about kidney disease and glandular fever. Get emergency help for hives, swelling of the face, lips or tongue, wheeze or breathing difficulty. Report severe, watery or bloody diarrhoea during or in the weeks after the course. Do not use a bottle reconstituted for a previous illness, do not give leftover antibiotic to a sibling, and do not give an antibiotic for a cough or cold without a clinician deciding it is bacterial, because the majority of childhood respiratory infections are viral and gain nothing from it.
Keep the sealed powder below 25 degrees Celsius in a dry place. Once made up, refrigerate between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius, never freeze, and discard the remainder after seven days or the stated in-use period, even if the bottle is not empty. Write the reconstitution date on the bottle. Shake before each dose, keep the cap tight, store on a fridge shelf, and keep it well out of reach of children.
